Gestalt Psychology is the law of simplicity and how we apply meaning to something/ perception of something. Now my body is what everyone on the outside sees. Scientific view of my body is that I have 206 bones and various amounts of muscle groups. I have a heart, brain, and lungs to help my body be able to function. However, the true definition behind who I am goes beyond the perceptions of my body. Who I am and what I am capable of doing is above any definition given from textbooks and from any scientists. I am a Native American teenager who lives in Phoenix, Arizona and I have a story. I come from Page, Arizona and for the younger part of my I played basketball and use to struggle with running because I was overweight. However, my mental strength to overcome obstacles and beat expectations for myself helped push me into becoming a better basketball player. I lost 40 pounds to help my success in basketball. Then, I faced a hard challenge of overcoming sexual abuse from a family member. I hid this secret until I was 16 years old and I faced the hardest time of my entire existence. I became weak, and vulnerable to anything that made me uncomfortable. I did meet one of the greatest friendships I ever had to help push me and overcome all the barriers I was too afraid to overcome. To her I was just a normal teenager and she did not know all of this. Gestalt Psychology shows that we we ourselves go above the scientific definition of ourselves and add meaning to who we are. I chose this picture because with all of this behind me I was still able to smile really big and stay committed to something I enjoyed with my favorite teammate.
